Oregano is harvested during the flowering of the plant (in late May or early June), where stems with leaves and flowers are dried and grinded. It is considered to be a key element of Mediterranean cuisine, used as seasoning in salads, roasted meats and various cooking recipes. With regard to its medicinal properties, it is antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory and bactericidal. As a beverage, it is used for stomach aches as well as to sooth cough, while it helps in hypertension and arteriosclerosis.
